Android Developer - AI Eng Team
NewBe an early applicantSummary
Android developer building new features on a consumer mobile app (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, MVI/Clean Architecture) for a fast-growing AI-powered hardware company, with exposure to embedded Android on physical devices and AI-native, AI-assisted engineering workflows. 4 days on-site in Melbourne CBD; up to $130K + super.
We've partnered with a a fast-growing company building AI-powered hardware products and they build them differently.
You'll have direct access to leadership, fast decision-making without layers of middle management. Every engineer here works AI-native: they use AI tools as a core part of their development process, not a side experiment. If you're curious what "spec-driven, AI-assisted engineering" actually looks like in practice (rather than just prompting a chatbot for snippets), this is a rare chance to work inside a team that's built its whole workflow around it.
You'll be joining at an exciting point as they're wrapping up Phase 1 of a major rebuild of the software running on the devices, with more phases. This isn't firefighting legacy code; it's building new features on a fresh foundation.
What You'll Work On
- The consumer mobile app (Kotlin / Jetpack Compose), which is built within established architecture patterns (MVI, Clean Architecture, modular architecture), used by customers across multiple regions
- The chance to get exposure to heavily customised, embedded Android running on physical hardware
- A genuinely uncommon opportunity most Android engineers never get near. No prior experience needed here; you'll learn it on the job
- Real ownership of features from spec through to shipped product, working closely with an Android technical lead in a flat, low-bureaucracy team
- 4+ years of core Android experience, ideally 5-6 years. Someone who's comfortable owning real feature work, not just maintaining
- At least 1 year of hands-on Jetpack Compose
- Strong experience shipping features on consumer-facing apps. Especially interested in how many distinct features you've built and owned, not just supported
- Comfortable working with (or genuinely curious about) AI-assisted development workflows
- Bonus points for exposure to AOSP, Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), or integrating apps with hardware
