Android Developer

Open 24d

Summary

Build and scale native Android apps in Kotlin, working closely with cross-functional teams to ship reliable software across devices and OS versions, with occasional Flutter integration.

OneScreen is seeking a Native Android Developer to build and scale the Android applications that power our devices and mobile experiences. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will own features end to end, from architecture and implementation through release, telemetry, and iteration. You will work closely with product, design, QA, and firmware teams to ship software that performs reliably across a wide range of Android versions, form factors, and hardware configurations. Experience with Flutter is a strong plus, as parts of our product surface are cross-platform.

This role offers a clear path toward technical leadership and influence over mobile architecture, release engineering, and platform standards.

Note: The candidate will work during the evening/night shift with our US Teams. This is an on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin (and Java where applicable), following modern architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVI.
  • Build responsive, accessible interfaces with Jetpack Compose and/or the traditional View system.
  • Integrate with REST and GraphQL APIs, handling authentication, caching, offline behavior, and error states cleanly.
  • Work with Android internals — activity/fragment lifecycle, the intent system, the permissions model, and background execution limits — to build features that behave correctly across OS versions.
  • Contribute to Flutter-based components and shared modules where cross-platform delivery makes sense.
  • Optimize application performance: startup time, memory footprint, rendering, battery consumption, and ANR elimination.
  • Write unit and instrumentation tests, and partner with QA to keep automated coverage meaningful and maintainable.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architectural decisions.
  • Support build and release pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or GitLab, including signing, versioning, and Play Store distribution.
  • Debug production issues using ADB, logcat, dumpsys, Android Profiler, crash reporting, and analytics dashboards.
  • Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams on device-specific behavior, integrations, and testing on real units.
  • Challenge requirements and technical assumptions early, and contribute to blameless root-cause analysis when things go wrong.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of professional experience building and shipping native Android applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin; working knowledge of Java.
  • Solid understanding of Android internals: lifecycle management, intents, permissions, services, and background execution constraints.
  • Experience with Jetpack libraries (Compose, Navigation, Room, WorkManager, Lifecycle, ViewModel) and dependency injection (Hilt or Dagger).
  • Hands-on experience with ADB, logcat, and Android Profiler for debugging, log analysis, and performance investigation.
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, multi-regional environment.
  • High degree of ownership, accountability, and professional integrity.
