Job Description and Performance Standards
Title: Anesthesia Technician (554353507)
Department: Surgery
Reports To: Operating Room Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
Prepares, assembles, and maintains anesthesia equipment; contributes to the monitoring and testing of anesthesia equipment to ensure efficient operation of the OR service. Maintains and insures availability of all supplies required to perform anesthesia services within the facility. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patient’s current status in relation to their age specific needs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Licensure: May be certified as an OR Technician/ Certified Anesthesia Technician or preferred to have least one year experience in surgical services in the operational arena specific to Operating room suite. CPR required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in acute health care setting, preferably in the operating room.
Skills: Manual dexterity to assemble equipment. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients’ needs
that are age appropriate. Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in surgical environment, with exposure to hazards found in surgical areas including anesthetic agents and radiation and some potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Requires full range of body motion including lifting, pushing and pulling equipment over 20 pounds. Requires standing and walking for most of shift. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Ability to adapt to rapid turn over of patient census.
