Anesthesia Technician II
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Anesthesia Technician II in the Department of Anesthesiology. In this role, you will support anesthesia providers throughout the perioperative environment by preparing equipment, maintaining supplies, and ensuring anesthesia work areas are ready for safe, efficient patient care. This is a 100% onsite opportunity located at our Hyde Park campus.
- Prepare anesthesia machines, monitors, and related equipment before surgical and procedural cases.
- Perform operational checks, troubleshooting, cleaning, and routine maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
- Set up and assist with invasive monitoring equipment, airway equipment, rapid infusion devices, and specialty equipment.
- Assist anesthesia providers during routine and emergency procedures.
- Stock anesthesia carts, medication carts (as appropriate), and procedural areas with necessary supplies.
- Maintain inventory of anesthesia equipment and supplies and communicate shortages.
- Transport, clean, disinfect, and prepare anesthesia equipment according to infection prevention standards.
- Assist with difficult airway management and emergency response situations.
- Collaborate with physicians, CRNAs, nurses, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team.
- Accurately document equipment maintenance and quality control activities.
- Participate in department meetings, education, competency validation, and quality improvement initiatives.
Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient anesthesia work environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) or Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.A.T.T.) preferred or obtained within the required timeframe if applicable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum two years of anesthesia technician experience in an acute care hospital.
- Experience supporting operating room anesthesia services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Level I Trauma Center or academic medical center.
- Experience supporting multiple surgical specialties.
- Strong troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
