Animal Health Technician (Equine)

About the Position: This is a Animal Health Technician (Equine) position with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 1st Battalion, 3d United States Infantry Regiment, located at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas. **Licensed Veterinary Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician, Registered Veterinary Technician or Equivalent Licensure is preferred.**

Perform and record monthly stable inspections; estimate weights of working equines and administer preventive medical products, to include vaccinations and other supplements.

Coordinate with and aid Animal Care Specialists with monthly and quarterly veterinary specific training.

Analyze and evaluate environmental sanitation programs for the herd, quarantines when necessary, conditions, isolates, vaccinates and assists in implementing preventive medicine procedures.

Assist veterinarian with examinations, emergencies, and routine procedures.

Perform and assist various patient exams for working equines to include, but not limited to, joint injections, lameness exams, pre-purchase examinations, diagnostic imaging, colic workups, laceration and wound repairs, etc.

Administer preanesthetic and Intravenous (IV) anesthetic induction agents as directed by veterinarian.
