Open 21d

AOSP Developer (Android Framework Engineer)

  • Position Level: Mid / Senior

  • Salary Range: 100 - 140 PLN/h net (B2B, depending on seniority and experience)

  • Location: 100% Remote (Candidate must be based in Poland)

  • Language Requirement: English (Minimum B2)

About the Role

We are not looking for someone who just builds apps on top of Android. We are looking for an engineer who wants to dive beneath the surface and manipulate how the operating system itself behaves.

As an AOSP Developer / Android Framework Engineer, you will focus heavily on the internal architecture of the Android OS, with a specific, deep focus on the Framework layer. If you know Android from the inside out and love low-level customization, this is the place for you.

Your Responsibilities

  • OS Customization: Developing, modifying, and optimizing the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) internals.

  • Framework Architecture: Designing and implementing custom features within the Android Framework layer.

  • Core Engineering: Writing clean, efficient, and robust code utilizing Java, Kotlin, and configuration profiles in XML.

  • System Integration: Debugging and troubleshooting complex system-level issues, ensuring seamless communication between application layers and core OS services.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams to define architecture requirements and deliver stable custom OS builds.

Requirements

  • Location: You must be currently based in Poland (this is a hard requirement).

  • Language: Minimum B2 level in English (you can easily communicate technical concepts in an international environment).

  • OS Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of the Android Operating System internals, with an absolute focus on the Framework layer.

  • Tech Stack: Proven commercial experience with Java, Kotlin, and XML.

  • Experience: Mid or Senior-level background in Android system-level development or complex custom ROM implementations.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong debugging skills using system tools (e.g., adb, logcat, bugreports) to track down complex OS-level race conditions or memory leaks.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with the Android build system (Soong, Blueprint, Makefiles).

  • Basic understanding of C/C++ and the Android NDK / HAL layer.
