API Analyst | Integration & API Governance | Brussels
We are looking for an experienced API Analyst to join an Integration Team supporting a major public-sector organisation in Brussels.
This is not an API Developer role. We are looking for someone who can act as an enabler and trusted advisor to development teams, helping them analyse, design, document, standardise and govern APIs within a broader integration and composable architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development teams with the analysis, design and documentation of APIs.
- Create and maintain API specifications and contracts, including OpenAPI/Swagger.
- Ensure consistency in API standards, naming conventions, versioning, error handling, security and documentation.
- Analyse existing APIs and integration patterns and identify opportunities for improvement, standardisation and reuse.
- Support API governance, including API design reviews and alignment with architectural guidelines.
- Work closely with business analysts, functional analysts, developers, architects, security and operational teams.
- Align API designs with enterprise and solution architecture principles.
- Promote composable architecture, ensuring APIs and services are modular, reusable, loosely coupled and maintainable.
- Support knowledge sharing by developing guidelines, templates and documentation.
- Help further develop the Integration Team as an enabling function for development teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in functional and technical analysis within software development or IT projects.
- Strong experience with API analysis, API design and integration analysis.
- Good knowledge of:
- REST APIs
- API contracts
- OpenAPI / Swagger
- JSON
- Understanding of integration principles, including:
- Synchronous and asynchronous communication
- Event-driven integration
- Message queues
- Middleware
- Knowledge of API governance, standardisation, lifecycle management, versioning and service reusability.
- Understanding of API security concepts such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, certificates and access control.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with development teams.
- Knowledge of ESB and integration platforms, preferably AXWAY and Fuse.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills.

The document should clearly explain the candidate's personal role, collaboration with developers and architects, and how the APIs fitted into the wider integration and composable architecture.
