API QA Analyst
Summary
We are looking for an API QA Analyst to join in our team: a small, cross-functional quality team embedded with a development squad. You will be the specialist for validating APIs, integrations, service contracts, and backend business rules before they affect user-facing channels. You will work alongside the QA Lead, Functional Testers, QA Automation Engineers, Mobile Testers, and Performance Testers, bringing a service-layer quality lens to every release and helping the team detect integration defects early.
Key responsibilities
Review API specifications, integration designs, data mappings, business rules, and interface dependencies.
Design positive, negative, boundary, authorization, idempotency, error-handling, and data-validation scenarios.
Maintain traceability between requirements, endpoints, test cases, and dependent systems.
Develop and execute API tests for REST, SOAP, GraphQL, or event-driven interfaces as applicable.
Validate requests, responses, status codes, headers, schemas, payloads, authentication, and business rules.
Build reusable API collections and automated test suites using tools such as Postman/Newman, REST Assured, Karate, SoapUI, or Playwright.
Prepare test data, stubs, mocks, and environment configurations needed for integration testing.
Use logs, traces, database queries, and correlation identifiers to isolate integration failures.
Log defects with complete request and response evidence, expected behavior, and downstream impact.
Report API coverage, execution status, defect trends, and integration risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3-5 years of software testing experience, with at least 2 years focused on API and integration testing.
Hands-on experience with Postman, SoapUI, REST Assured, Karate, or a comparable API testing tool.
Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, REST, JSON, XML, status codes, headers, and authentication methods.
Experience validating data using SQL and tracing transactions across integrated systems.
Basic scripting or programming skills in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Groovy.
Experience using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications and source control using Git.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and the software development lifecycle.
Experience with contract testing tools such as Pact or schema validation frameworks.
Exposure to microservices, message queues, event streams, webhooks, and service virtualization.
Experience integrating API tests into CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of API security testing concepts and performance checks.
ISTQB or relevant API testing certification.
