Application Developer

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for designing, developing, and supporting software applications, system integrations, reporting solutions, and automation initiatives that improve university operations and enhance the experience of students, faculty, and staff. The position collaborates with departments across campus to identify business needs, develop technical solutions, integrate enterprise systems, and improve access to institutional data.

The position plays a key role in supporting the university's strategic technology initiatives through application development, API integrations, data management, reporting, and process automation. The individual will work with both internally developed and third-party systems and remain informed of emerging technologies that may benefit the university.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain custom applications and web-based solutions.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between institutional systems using APIs, middleware, and automation tools.
  • Create and maintain custom solutions for Ellucian Experience, Ethos Integration, Salesforce, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to identify technology solutions that improve business processes.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for applications, integrations, workflows, and processes.
  • Troubleshoot application, integration, and data-related issues.
  • Participate in software evaluations, testing, and implementation projects.
  • Provide training and support related to applications and integrations developed by the university.
  • Assist with institutional data governance initiatives.
  • Maintain records of projects, changes, and technical documentation.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and development practices.
  • Serve on committees and project teams as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience developing software applications, websites, or system integrations.
  • Experience working with APIs, JSON, XML, or related technologies.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C#, PHP, or similar.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience with reporting, analytics, or business intelligence tools preferred.
  • Experience with higher education systems, Ellucian products, Salesforce, or learning management systems preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse campus community.
