Application Developer/Systems Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Application Developer / Systems Engineer based in the United States.

This role combines software development, systems engineering, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices to support reliable enterprise environments.
You’ll develop and deploy solutions across Linux and Windows infrastructure while helping create scalable, automated management capabilities.
The position offers hands-on ownership of infrastructure architecture, configuration management, deployment orchestration, and CI/CD practices.
You’ll work with technologies including Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, cloud infrastructure, and multiple programming languages.
Your work will directly support application delivery, infrastructure reliability, production troubleshooting, and engineering productivity.
You’ll also contribute to technical standards, code and design reviews, and the coaching of engineering teams.

Accountabilities:

  • Infrastructure application development: Develop, test, and deploy software and automation code used to configure and manage enterprise Linux and Windows hosting environments.
  • Infrastructure architecture: Define infrastructure services architecture and establish scalable approaches for managing enterprise environments and application configurations.
  • Automation and configuration management: Create reusable modules and automation solutions for infrastructure management, with a focus on Puppet and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Deployment orchestration: Support the automated deployment of business applications and services across traditional and containerized environments.
  • Enterprise infrastructure: Configure and manage application servers, load balancers, proxy servers, virtual private clouds (VPCs), networks, and subnets.
  • CI/CD engineering: Design, build, and maintain automated testing frameworks and scripts supporting continuous integration and continuous delivery for infrastructure and application code.
  • Container environments: Assess, debug, and troubleshoot containerized services and applications, supporting reliable deployments across Docker and Kubernetes environments.
  • Production troubleshooting: Partner with operations teams to triage bugs, diagnose technical issues, and resolve production incidents efficiently.
  • Engineering enablement: Provide training, coaching, and technical support to engineering teams developing code for infrastructure and application configuration management.
  • Standards and best practices: Establish product vision, technical standards, and recommended practices for configuration management technologies and infrastructure automation.
  • Technical collaboration: Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, design reviews, and other engineering activities to promote quality, maintainability, and operational reliability.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve automation, deployment processes, infrastructure reliability, and engineering workflows.
  • Requirements

    • Professional experience: Relevant experience in infrastructure development, systems engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, configuration management, application deployment, automation engineering, or a closely related discipline.
    • Puppet expertise: Puppet Certified Professional certification is required.
    • Infrastructure knowledge: Hands-on experience working with both Linux and Windows infrastructure environments.
    • Containerization: Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
    • Programming: Exposure to one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, .NET, or similar technologies.
    • Version control: Experience using GitHub or another Git-based version control system.
    • CI/CD: Working knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery methodologies and automated software delivery practices.
    • Automation mindset: Ability to design and implement repeatable infrastructure automation and configuration management solutions.
    • Troubleshooting: Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate infrastructure and application issues systematically.
    • Cloud and networking: Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts, VPCs, networks, subnets, application servers, load balancing, and proxy services.
    • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with engineering and operations teams, participate in technical reviews, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
    • Technical leadership: Comfortable providing guidance, coaching, training, and best-practice recommendations to other engineering professionals.
    • Security clearance: This position requires a Public Trust clearance or the ability to obtain one.
    • Work authorization and screening: Candidates must be able to satisfy applicable pre-employment requirements.
    • Benefits

      • Estimated starting salary of $170,000–$185,000, with final compensation based on experience.
