Application Security Consultant
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Application Security Consultant to assess, validate, and strengthen the security posture of enterprise applications and their supporting infrastructure.
The role will focus on reviewing application security controls, validating vulnerability assessment results, assessing security hardening, and working closely with development and DevSecOps teams to ensure identified security issues are appropriately remediated.
The successful candidate should have strong hands-on knowledge of application security testing, vulnerability assessment, secure coding practices, and modern cloud and container environments.
Key Responsibilities
Review and validate findings generated by Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) tools.
Review vulnerability scan results across operating systems, containers, databases, and supporting application infrastructure.
Analyse security findings to identify vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, false positives, and potential security risks.
Assess security hardening across application components including web servers, APIs, operating systems, containers, and databases.
Evaluate applications against secure coding standards, security policies, and established application security requirements.
Work closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and DevSecOps teams to drive remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
Validate remediation activities and confirm appropriate closure of security findings.
Maintain security assessment and audit documentation including findings, remediation status, supporting evidence, and compliance records.
Support application and infrastructure security reviews, internal audits, and compliance assessments.
Review security controls implemented throughout the software development lifecycle.
Provide application security guidance to development and engineering teams.
Identify recurring security weaknesses and recommend improvements to development and security processes.
Stay current with emerging application security threats, vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and secure development practices.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in Application Security, DevSecOps, Security Assessment, Security Auditing, or Secure Software Development.
Strong understanding of application security principles and common application vulnerabilities.
Good knowledge of OWASP Top 10 and secure coding practices.
Hands-on experience with SAST and DAST tools.
Experience with one or more security testing tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, or equivalent.
Experience reviewing and interpreting vulnerability assessment and security scan reports.
Understanding of operating system, container, database, and application infrastructure security.
Knowledge of vulnerability prioritisation, remediation, and validation processes.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating security practices within the software development lifecycle.
Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Ability to analyse security findings and communicate remediation requirements effectively to technical teams.
Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of application penetration testing methodologies and techniques.
Experience assessing APIs, web applications, microservices, and containerised applications.
Understanding of cloud security and DevSecOps practices.
Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and PCI DSS.
Experience supporting security audits and regulatory compliance assessments.
Familiarity with security automation and vulnerability management processes.
Preferred Certifications
Relevant security certifications would be advantageous, including:
CREST Certified Penetration Tester or equivalent.
CISSP.
CCSP.
Relevant AWS, Azure, or GCP security certification.
DevSecOps-related professional certification.
