Applications Architect Senior
Summary
Lead application architecture for the MLITSD 360 platform, designing cloud-native microservices and hybrid deployments using Azure, Tanzu, and enterprise governance frameworks.
This is an onsite role in Toronto, Ontario.
- Lead the overall application architecture and technology strategy for the MLITSD 360 platform and related initiatives.
- Design, recommend, implement, and manage application architectures across hardware, software, databases, integrations, and communications.
- Architect and deliver cloud-native solutions using microservices and containerized platforms, specifically Tanzu (formerly Pivotal Cloud Foundry).
- Develop solution options and architectural artifacts to address complex business requirements and align with Ontario Government architecture standards.
- Provide architectural leadership for hybrid deployments spanning on-premises data centres and multiple cloud environments.
- Lead architecture reviews, assessments, investigations, and technical solution design activities.
- Define application architecture requirements and obtain required management and governance approvals.
- Develop architecture work plans, detailed solution designs, resource estimates, and implementation strategies.
- Provide expertise in cloud costing, licensing, and efficient utilization of program budgets.
- Ensure appropriate consideration of security, privacy, accessibility, and enterprise integration requirements.
- Design integration and communication solutions between internal system components and external systems.
- Participate in enterprise architecture governance and deliver artifacts aligned with the OPS Zachman Enterprise Framework.
- Ensure project teams follow Ministry standards, methodologies, architectural policies, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to Agile delivery teams.
- Support technical issue resolution, implementation activities, and post-production support.
- Contribute to project planning and collaborate with project management teams.
- Provide effective knowledge transfer to Ministry staff throughout the engagement.
- Extensive experience designing and implementing solutions in public cloud environments using:
- Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)
- Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
- Strong Microsoft Azure architecture experience is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-native technologies supporting applications containing highly sensitive data.

- Demonstrated leadership in cloud security architecture and securing cloud workloads against potential threats.

- Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
- Extensive experience designing and implementing microservices-based architectures.
- Strong experience delivering solutions using containerized platforms.
- Mandatory experience with Tanzu (formerly Pivotal Cloud Foundry).
- Experience managing large-scale programs leveraging common microservices platforms to deliver multiple integrated solutions.
- Experience designing scalable, resilient, and distributed application architectures.
- Strong experience working as a Solution/Application Architect within Agile delivery environments.
- Experience embedded within delivery teams, providing technical leadership and architectural guidance.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery teams and solution implementation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including:

- Experience with structured methodologies for application design, development, and implementation.
- Strong systems analysis and design experience in large-scale enterprise environments.

- Experience working within Public Sector and/or large enterprise environments.
- Experience with enterprise architecture governance processes and committees.
- Knowledge of organizational IT standards, preferably Government of Ontario (GO-ITS) standards.
- Experience leading projects through enterprise architecture governance and review committees.
- Experience preparing architecture documentation and artifacts for committees such as the Ontario Government Architectural Review Board.
- Knowledge of MLITSD application patterns and infrastructure is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated leadership in developing and implementing complex application architectures.
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage multiple stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with business teams, technical teams, security specialists, privacy teams, accessibility specialists, management, and external vendors.
