Summary

Applications Developer at The Omah Group (a NZ civil construction and environmental services group) builds and enhances internal business applications, integrates systems, and automates workflows with operational teams. Core stack is JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, with Vite, Tailwind CSS and CI/CD desirable.

Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 per year

Turn business challenges into smarter digital solutions
The Omah Group is looking for a practical, solutions-focused Applications Developer to help improve the way our business operates through technology. This is an opportunity to take your development skills beyond writing code and work directly with our operational teams to assist with designing, developing and improving digital applications, integrations and automated workflows that make a real difference.

Working alongside our Electronics Engineer, who will provide technical oversight and guidance, you’ll help translate business needs into effective, user-friendly technology solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of development projects, contribute ideas and see your work deliver tangible improvements across the organisation.

If you enjoy variety, like getting to the bottom of a problem and want to build technology that genuinely gets used, we’d like to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing
This is a varied, hands-on role combining application development, systems integration, business improvement and project delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and improving applications: Build, maintain and enhance business applications and digital platforms that support our operational and commercial requirements

  • Digitalising business processes: Identify opportunities to replace manual, repetitive or inefficient processes with practical digital solutions and automated workflows

  • Integrating systems: Improve the way our applications communicate, helping streamline information flows, reduce duplication and make better use of existing technology

  • Working with the business: Partner with operational managers and support teams to understand their challenges and turn business requirements into fit-for-purpose solutions

  • Delivering digital projects: Contribute to projects from initial scoping and technical design through development, testing, implementation and ongoing improvement

  • Exploring new technology: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, cloud platforms and AI-enabled solutions where they can deliver meaningful business benefits

  • Supporting users and systems: Ensure solutions are reliable, secure, maintainable and well documented, with clear user guidance and appropriate support processes.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, influence how solutions are developed and help shape the future of our digital capability.

What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with a solid development foundation who is ready to take the next step in their career, build their technical capability and take ownership of meaningful projects.

You’ll ideally bring:

· At least three years’ relevant experience in application development, software engineering, systems integration or a similar digital technology role

· Strong practical skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js essential

· Experience applying Vite, Tailwind CSS and CI/CD practices desirable

· Experience developing and maintaining clean, structured and maintainable code

· Experience building, improving or integrating business applications and digital systems

· An understanding of APIs, data flows and how different platforms and systems work together

· Experience working with end users to understand requirements and develop practical technology solutions

· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the confidence to research options and recommend sensible solutions

A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Your approach matters
Technical capability is important, but so is the way you approach problems and work with people.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Takes initiative and enjoys finding better ways of doing things

  • Can work independently, manage priorities and take responsibility for delivering outcomes

  • Balances good technical practice with practical business needs, cost, security and maintainability

  • Is comfortable asking questions, challenging existing processes constructively and exploring alternatives

  • Builds strong working relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Is curious about emerging technology and keen to keep learning

  • Understands that successful technology is not just about the code, it’s about solving the right problem and making life easier for the people using it.
