Applications Engineer (Core)

Port of Tauranga is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer (Core) to take ownership of key business applications, with a particular focus on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of systems that support business-critical functions across the organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Core Applications & Insights, you will provide senior application support, leadership and technical expertise across a portfolio of core enterprise applications. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, vendors and Digital Services teams to deliver improvements, manage incidents, support users and drive ongoing optimisation.
Key responsibilities include:
Acting as the primary application specialist for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Providing senior-level support for core business applications including Business Central, Jemini Payroll and Vault Safety.
Leading complex incidents, problem resolution and application change initiatives.
Managing application releases, upgrades and integrations.
Partnering with Finance, Payroll and Safety teams to improve system performance and business outcomes.
Working with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure reliable and well-supported services.
Maintaining strong operational controls, documentation and support practices.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
You will bring:
A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
10+ years’ experience supporting, improving and delivering business-critical applications in a medium to large organisation, with clear ownership of production outcomes, stakeholder confidence, vendor performance, control maturity and continuous improvement.
Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, particularly within finance environments.
Strong knowledge of application support, incident management, change management and service delivery practices.
Experience working with SaaS platforms and third-party vendors.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
The ability to translate business requirements into practical technology solutions.
