Applications Software Development Intern
Description
Imagine being part of a team that’s redefining the future of mobility—where your ideas don’t just sit in a lab but power next-generation technology. At indie, we are developing cutting-edge semiconductors, photonics, and radar sensors and systems for automotive, industrial, and adjacent markets. Our innovations are at the heart of advanced intelligent sensing and user experience applications, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
If you're passionate about groundbreaking technology and want to make a real impact alongside a fast-paced team that thrives on creativity and collaboration, we’d love to have you on board!
As an Applications Software Development Intern, you will work on coding, testing, and script development projects for our computer vision business unit. You’ll gain hands-on experience building automation and tooling that exercises imaging and vision features that help the team deliver production-quality software. This unique opportunity spans the software development cycle—from requirements through design, development, testing, and bug-fixing on real world products.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain automated tests for customer example programs that show how to use the device’s customer facing API
- Develop, run, and debug example applications that exercise the APIs for imaging and vision features
- Participate in the full software development cycle, including code reviews
- Analyze test failures, triage issues, and drive fixes with clear, thorough problem-solving
- Update build, test, and support scripts used to validate example programs and API usage
- Collaborate with QA, hardware, firmware, and applications teams to resolve product and customer issues
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (Junior or Senior preferred; graduate students also considered).
- Proficiency in Python and C
- Strong interest in software development for embedded/vision systems and test automation
- Experience with, or clear understanding of, the software development lifecycle
- Serious about analyzing and solving problems—not glossing over them
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of using AI for agentic coding
- Scripting experience beyond coursework (especially Python for automation or tooling)
- Exposure to embedded systems, camera pipelines, image processing, or computer vision concepts
- Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and debugging practices
