Aqua Zumba Instructor (Part-time)

JCC Greater Boston is seeking someone dynamic, fun, and personable to teach Aqua Zumba classes. Do you have a passion for exercising and want to help people reach their in-water goals? Come join our vibrant community of health and wellness professionals!

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative teacher who is dedicated to making the class time a highlight of the participants' weeks. While Aqua Zumba training experience is desired, JCC will work with otherwise qualified candidates to train in the Aqua Zumba specialty and is a dynamic and personable team member that is responsible for teaching fun Aqua Zumba lessons. Instructors are in charge of class preparation, including music and day-to-day preparations.

Instructors will be in charge of class preparation, including music and day-to-day preparations. Responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Design, instruct, and facilitate Aqua Zumba classes
  • Create a safe, supportive environment that fosters confidence and skill-appropriate conditioning
  • Ensure the safety of all participants by preventative measures and minimizing hazardous situations
  • Build trust and foster self-confidence, adapting the approach, as needed, to meet the unique needs of each swimmer
  • Maintain discretion and class records
  • Provide ongoing, effective communication with the supervisor regarding all classes and programming
  • Manage equipment used for sessions
  • Recognize and respond according to protocols in emergency situations
  • Actively create a welcoming dynamic where each individual feels seen and welcomed
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values including through personal role modeling
  • Other duties, as assigned

This position is currently for two hours per week in Newton with a competitive starting pay of $30.00-$40.00 per hour. The pay offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications and experience, and internal equity.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Requires a high school education or equivalent and must be 21 years of age or older. Must have water aerobics instruction experience; JCC will work with the otherwise qualified candidates to train in the Aqua Zumba specialty. Must be American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

  • Dedicated to working with adults, helping them achieve their goals
  • See, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services; vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
  • Ability to make safety-related decisions
  • Able to communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
  • Read, write, understand, and speak English
  • Work in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment for extended periods
  • Stand, sit, and lay on the pool deck while moving their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
  • Lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
