Architect - Engineering
Summary
Lead full-stack architect at HD Supply's Chennai Global Capability Center, defining target-state architecture and governance for enterprise Java microservices, modern frontends, and BODS-driven integrations. Day to day: run design reviews, produce reference architectures and standards, and mentor developers and technical leads.
Strategy and Planning:
• Define target-state architecture and modernization roadmaps across applications, integrations, and platforms, aligned to business outcomes
• Establish enterprise architecture guardrails covering service design, API standards, integration patterns, and frontend engineering principles
• Drive domain and boundary decisions for microservices, including ownership models, dependency strategy, and migration sequencing
• Govern architecture decision-making through structured reviews, risk assessments, and technology rationalization across the portfolio
• Identify opportunities to embed AI and machine learning capabilities across applications and platforms by assessing where predictive models, GenAI services or intelligent automation can enhance system behaviour and user experience
• Set non-functional standards for availability, observability, performance, security, and data integrity, ensuring consistent engineering outcomes
Delivery and Execution:
• Lead solution architecture for complex initiatives spanning frontend, backend, and integrations, ensuring cohesive end-to-end design
• Produce reference architectures and implementation accelerators that teams can adopt consistently across products and programs
• Architect integration flows using BODS with controlled data movement, scheduling discipline, lineage awareness, and failure handling
• Guide delivery teams through architecture runway planning, design validation, and build-time decisions for predictable execution
Support and Enablement:
• Establish architecture playbooks, reusable templates, and standards that reduce rework and improve delivery consistency • Partner with security and platform teams to embed secure-by-design controls and governance into engineering workflows • Strengthen operational readiness through production checklists, performance reviews, and release risk mitigation mechanisms
• Enable cross-team alignment through clear documentation, decision logs, and stakeholder communication for complex dependencies
People Leadership:
• Mentor developers and technical leads through coaching, reviews, and hands-on guidance to strengthen architecture quality
• Build an architecture community of practice that promotes best practices, reuse, and consistent technical decision-making • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through disciplined reviews and outcome-based engineering standards
Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
• TOGAF 9 or equivalent enterprise architecture certification is preferred
Required Experience:
• 12–15 years of overall experience in software engineering with ownership of enterprise-scale delivery and operational outcomes
• 4+ years of relevant experience in technical architecture across full stack systems spanning frontend, backend, and integrations
• Proven experience designing and governing architectures for Java microservices platforms in enterprise environments
• Experience leading modernization programs, including decomposition , migration sequencing, and controlled cutover planning across systems.
• Experience working in a GCC setup with global teams, including stakeholder alignment across time zones and regions
Essential Skills:
• Strong enterprise technical architecture leadership across frontend, backend, integrations, and shared platform capabilities at scale
• Experienced designing Java microservices with domain boundaries, API contracts, resiliency patterns, and reliability-focused interfaces
• Strong architecture governance skills driving structured design reviews, decision logs, risk management, and technology standardization
• Experienced defining integration patterns using ETL/ELT with robust scheduling, failure recovery, data validation, and lineage controls
• Experienced creating reference architectures, reusable accelerators, and templates that improve consistency across multiple delivery teams
• Strong debugging mindset translating production learnings into architecture improvements, preventative controls, and operational readiness standards
Desired Skills:
• Familiar with enterprise platform patterns for identity, secrets management, and policy guardrails across application ecosystems
• Experienced mentoring architects and leads, building communities of practice, and scaling architecture capability across teams
• Strong experience establishing engineering metrics and governance to improve delivery predictability, quality, and operational outcomes
