Architecture Department Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the direction and supervision of professional, technical and administrative job groups. Coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, budgets and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Manages all line organization functions assigned to department including personnel administration; project quality assurance and project team support; support of technical organization; and support of business development.
- Recommends department plans, programs and resources, including staff budgets and capital expenditures, and manages and executes those approved to meet line organization objectives.
- Supervises and develops Section Managers, Project Managers, and/or department members to meet established objectives.
- Recommends hiring, salaries, promotion, transfer, demotion and termination of department members.
- Drafts and reviews scopes and fees for new department proposals.
- Serves as Project Manager on key department projects.
- Ensures that department loading calendars are completed on a timely basis.
- Responsible for and reports department status, results and performance.
- Balances workload within department.
- Recommends department and group operating policies, standards and procedures.
- Performs other functions delegated by the Group Manager or Office Leader.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Arts in Architecture from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
- R.A. required
Performance Standards:
- Performance on client engagements, including discipline management and results.
- Utilization and development of human and other resources.
- Quality control
- Support of business development.
- Relationships with and support of other departments and groups, the technical organization and project team organization.
- Financial performance including budget control of project assignments and indirect costs.
- Staff development
JUDGMENT AND INITIATIVE LEVEL: Usually involves diversified work within general procedures, requiring frequent judgment and initiative. Only exceptional cases outside of general procedures referred to manager.
MANAGERIAL SCOPE LEVEL: Responsible for the supervision, development, evaluation and recommending the hiring and termination of staff members, as well as developing departmental budgets for Group Manager/Office Leader’s approval. The number of employees directly supervised is typically 4 to 8.
