We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our National Logistics team in the position of Area Transport Manager based at Desford.
This role has responsibility for a geographical allocation of fleet vehicles, drivers and Forterra Operating Centres, the post holder will ensure legal compliance in relation to the Companies Goods Vehicle Operator Licences, Health & Safety legislation and Company Policies.
The post holder will collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of our logistics operation whilst optimising our cost base, safety performance and compliance.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
Leadership of the transport function within a designated area.
Daily management of drivers and vehicles ensuring compliance with Company Policies.
Ensuring all obligations and requirements set out in the Companies Goods Vehicle Operators’ License are adhered to including but not limited to, daily checks, vehicle maintenance, drivers’ hours records, vehicle weights etc.
Achieve and maintain key performance indicators.
Work closely with Operations / Production colleagues to ensure targets are met.
Collaborate with maintenance providers to ensure maximum fleet availability is achieved.
Communicate with drivers and others to ensure that they are kept up to date with customer & business requirements.
Ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety legislation / instructions.
First point of contact with Forterra sites within the geographical location.
Have a customer focused approach to ensure service levels are maintained.
Resource management and deployment within a dynamic environment, and any other duties as requested by your manager.
Through service delivery, ensure a first-class customer service experience.
About You:
Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
To demonstrate experience in a similar role.
To work with little supervision using own initiative to deliver objectives in a time constrained environment, along with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, but especially with direct reports and others within the department.
To work autonomously within a collaborative team.
To manage the recruitment, induction, and probation of qualified and trainee drivers.
To respond to accidents, breakdowns, and vehicle/staff changes.
To manage cost and performance within set budgets and parameters.
Minimum of National Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport Management
Formal Health & Safety Qualification (NEBOSH / IOSH Managing Safety)
Computer literate, with an understanding of Microsoft Programmes (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, MS teams)
