Art Technician
The Art technician is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all technical operations related to exhibitions and the overall functioning of the gallery, in collaboration with the registrar team. He/She oversees installations, exhibition setup and dismantling, artwork handling, as well as technical teams and external contractors.
Exhibition & Fair Installation / Dismantling
- Coordinate installation and dismantling teams for exhibitions, in collaboration with the registrar in charge of the exhibition or fair.
- Install artworks with the art handlers team, in close dialogue with the registrar team and in accordance with the artist’s instructions as well as those of the director or curator.
- Manage the production of display elements (plinths, framing, etc.) and oversee artwork production with appointed contractors.
Artwork Handling & Conservation Standards
- Ensure the safe handling, packing, and movement of artworks.
- Apply installation guidelines, mounting, fixing, and conservation methods recommended by artists’ studios.
- Oversee artwork hanging for private viewings.
- Conduct regular condition checks of artworks on display and in storage.
Technical Management & Maintenance
- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of gallery spaces (touch up on the walls, paintwork, lighting, storage, etc.).
- Manage tools, equipment, and packing materials.
- Maintain and operate audiovisual systems, lighting systems and exhibition-specific technical setups.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and risk prevention measures.
- Manage inventory and storage (artworks and gallery furniture), both on-site and off-site.
- Organize and maintain registrar workspaces across the three Paris locations.
- Coordinate art handlers and fine art shippers.
- Prepare and draft installation instructions.
- Produce artwork condition reports with Articheck application.
- Fluent in French and English
- Proven experience as a senior technician or lead technician in a contemporary art gallery, museum, or cultural institution.
- Strong experience in artwork handling and technical installation (knowledge of tools, materials, and preventive conservation standards).
- Knowledge of AV systems, lighting, and multimedia installations.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage allocated budgets.
- Physically capable of handling heavy works safely.
