Job Purpose:

To assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting, fault finding, installation and repair of electrical equipment and systems within the factory. The role focuses on identifying the root causes of electrical failures, minimising equipment downtime, and improving the reliability and efficiency of production machinery and plant utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reduction in recurring electrical breakdowns.
• Improvement in electrical equipment availability and reliability.
• Timely completion of scheduled preventative maintenance.
• Accuracy and completeness of fault-finding reports and maintenance records.
• Successful installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of VSDs.
• Compliance with electrical safety, isolation, and food safety requirements.
• Reduction in repeat faults through effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Perform electrical maintenance in accordance with factory GMP and FSSC 22000 requirements.
• Inspect motors, electrical panels, cables, connections, sensors and control equipment for damage, overheating, loose connections and abnormal operating conditions.
• Assist with testing, repairing and replacing faulty electrical components.
• Carry out electrical wiring, installations and modifications on machinery, control panels, motors, sensors, switches and other electrical components.
• Install and terminate cables, cable trays, conduits, isolators, contactors, relays and protection devices.

Experience and qualification:

• Red Seal Electrician trade test preferred for an experienced, independently working artisan
• 2-5 years of experience as an Electrician
• Practical knowledge of VSD installation, parameter setting and troubleshooting.
• N2–N6 Electrical Engineering or a relevant recognised electrical qualification.

Skills and competencies:

Knowledge:

• Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems, three-phase motors, motor control circuits, electrical wiring and fault finding.
• Practical knowledge of VSD installation, parameter setting and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures and safe isolation.
• Computer literacy and the ability to complete maintenance records and technical reports.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime and standby when required by operational needs.

Skills:

• VSD manufacturer-specific training.
• Basic PLC and industrial automation knowledge.
• Electrical testing and motor diagnostic experience.
• Experience with preventive maintenance systems and breakdown reporting.
• Knowledge of GMP and FSSC 22000 requirements in a food-manufacturing environment.
• Cross-functional team working skills (Intermediate)
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills (Intermediate)
