Assembly Engineer
Summary
Develops and optimizes fiber optic assembly processes in a cleanroom environment, ensuring high-quality production and manufacturability for optical and precision products.
Job Description:
· Develop, validate, and optimize processes for fiber optic termination and polishing to achieve high-quality, high-yield, and manufacturable production.
· Design and implement ultra-clean assembly workflows in a controlled semiconductor cleanroom environment.
· Lead transfer and development of new manufacturing processes for mass production of optical fiber assemblies and precision products.
· Define and implement cleanliness and process specifications to ensure stable and compliant production conditions.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, quality, and cost performance.
· Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and New Product Introduction(NPI) activities to ensure smooth product launch and scale-up.
· Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure timely execution of technical projects, meeting cost, quality, and delivery targets.
· Lead process validation, risk assessments (FMEA), and tooling development for new production lines.
· Implement process controls and problem-solving methodologies (SPC, 8D,DOE) to resolve technical issues and improve yield.
· Drive customer communication during technical escalations and provide timely progress updates to stakeholders.
· Ensure safety compliance, including laser safety assessments, and promote a strong safety culture in the workplace.
· Support training and development of technicians and production teams to build strong operational capability.
· Participate in supplier/source qualification and ensure readiness for production transfer and handover.
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical/Precision Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.
· At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment, preferably in optical, laser, semiconductor, or cleanroom industries.
· Strong hands-on experience in process development, NPI, and manufacturing scale-up.
· Proven ability in process improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools (DOE,8D, FMEA, SPC).
· Experience working in cleanroom or high-precision manufacturing environments is highly preferred.
· Knowledge of optical fiber assembly, laser systems, or precision contamination control is an advantage.
· Experience working with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or AS9100 quality systems.
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
· Exposure to customer-facing technical discussions or escalation handling.
· Familiar with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is an advantage.
· Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) is a plus.
· Strong communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
