This part-time hourly position reports to the Coordinator of Accessibility Services. The part-time assistant is responsible for managing the testing environment and processes in Accessibility Services. This position requires a flexible schedule with an ability to work morning, day or evening during busy testing times. Additionally, this position requires a high degree of attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality standards. The Accessibility Services Assistant responds to student inquiries about registering with Accessibility Services, receives documentation of disabilities, and completes initial reviews of documentation to determine scope and adequacy.

Example of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn to navigate and utilize Simplicity Accommodate, an electronic record management system
  • Receive documentation from students (in person, fax, and email) and file and scan it appropriately, then upload into the document section of a student’s file in Simplicity Accommodate
  • Perform initial documentation review for students before eligibility and accommodations process begins
  • Collect and organize data as it pertains to Accessibility Services (accommodation types, disability service codes, test events and surveys)
  • Maintain personal ACC email address as well as common Accessibility Services email address - checking several times per day and responding to basic questions pertaining to Accessibility Services as needed; other requests are forwarded to others as appropriate
  • Provide support for students and instructors to schedule testing using Simplicity Accommodate
  • Receive test requests, schedule testing sessions, and communicate with instructors
  • Check students in and out for exams while maintaining a welcoming and professional demeanor
  • Monitor students’ testing time along with other accommodations, such as an isolated distraction reduced environment
  • Provide support for specialized accommodations (e.g. tactile models, alternate formats, assisting instructors with making assignments and class more accessible)
  • Describe or read tests/exams for students
  • Read aloud test material for students requiring a reader
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties related to printing various formats and reading and interpreting of instructor and accommodation-related instructions
  • Assist in playing audio files or monitor slideshows for students taking computer exams
  • Deliver or pick up exams as needed
  • Disinfect testing stations as students depart

Typical Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher
    • At least one year of experience proctoring exams and/or working with students with disabilities
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
    • Experience with providing customer service
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Hours: 20-25 hours per week

Pay Rate: $15 per hour
