NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Supervisory Recreation Specialist BUSINESS TITLE: Assistant Athletics Director FLSA : Exempt JOB SERIES: 0188 PAY LEVEL: NF-03 INTRODUCTION: This position is located within the Marine Corps Community Services Division (MCCS), Semper Fit Branch, Athletics Section. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director of a multi-mission fitness, recreation, sports and retail program aboard a Marine Corps installation. The program serves a diverse population of active duty, reserve, and retired military, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers to include the local national community in and around the installation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in conducting a diversified fitness, recreation, sports and retail program and supervises a diverse workforce of multinational demographics (GS, NAF, MLC, IHA, Contracted Labor and Volunteers) as a regular and recurring part of the assignment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in the supervisory oversight of athletic and fitness operations, equipment, recreational fields/courts (softball fields, tennis courts, football field, soccer field, skate park, roller rink, track, racquetball courts, indoor/outdoor basketball/volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits) and other ancillary properties (picnic areas, pavilions, bike shelters, playground equipment and outdoor restrooms); government vehicles; a comprehensive sports program which features annual strategic and community relation events (COMREL); a retail program that has an inventory of supplements, vitamins, sports drinks, apparel and water; outdoor recreation programs which may include but not limited to outdoor recreation rental and supporting special/strategic events. Interprets and implements operational program goals and objectives as relayed by the Athletic Director to the subordinate workforce and assists in the organization and accomplishment of assignments. Identifies and solves operational and personnel related problems. Delegates assignments and deadlines to subordinates based on the Athletic Director¿s instructions. Trains or arranges for the training in areas of First Aid/CPR/AED, fire safety, physical security, customer relations, cash management, physical fitness, equal opportunity, sexual harassment policies, hazardous materials, government driver¿s license, mandatory annual training, field and grounds recreation, and other developmental instruction as needed. Reviews and approves schedules for employees to ensure adequate coverage of facilities in accordance with established staffing criteria. Approves various types of leave in the absence of the Athletic Director. Assists the Athletic Director in assessing and resolving attendance, performance and/or conduct issues of subordinates. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the Athletic Director. Reports and briefs the Athletic Director on team and individual work accomplishments, program issues, and progress in work assignments. Assists in supervising the workforce in identifying its strengths and weaknesses and assists in providing supervision and guidance to the workforce in exploring alternatives and determining what solutions to implement.
