Assistant Chief Engineer (Hotel)
Reporting to the General Manager, you shall be responsible for managing the engineering/maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure the safety and comfort of hotel guests and associates, overseeing the full maintenance functions and capital assets, project management and the overall effectiveness of Engineering department.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare the hotel’s annual maintenance budget and submit to management forapproval. The annual budget should include manpower requirement, capital requisition, alteration works, etc. On budget’s approval, the incumbent rolls out the maintenance plan including supervising the whole process of engineering works
- Ensure all engineering installations and constructions meet government rules and regulations
- Oversee the daily operation of the engineering department and ensure that all requests for maintenance services requested by the hotel’s operational departments /guests are expeditiously attended to. In this respect, the incumbent maintains proper records of maintenance works carried out and to prepare such reports of maintenance activities, stock inventory etc.
- Prepare and recommend for approval purchases pertaining to maintenance equipment, materials and supplies
- Supervise the inventory control of engineering parts, ensuring stocks are maintained at the appropriate level to meet the hotel’s needs
- Oversee the implementation of preventive maintenance and repair schedules of all hotel machinery, equipment and facilities
- Ensure that the hotel’s engineering leases, contracts and bids are in accordance with the established standards and guidelines and they are supportive of the hotel’s interests.
- To review the maintenance and repair cost of the hotel and recommend/implement cost reduction program
- Conduct performance development review of department staff, providing candid feedback on their respective performance to guide and improve performance where there is shortfall in performance and reinforce in performance to ensure performance has reached an acceptable level of competency
- Conduct training for department staff and to further develop those who show greater potential
- Responsible for staff retention and take appropriate measures in furtherance of staff stability
- Present all guest rooms and public areas back to Housekeeping and Front Office in a pristine condition, ensuring that all materials and tools are cleared prior to leaving the worksite
- Clear all storm water drainage including building gutters to ensure blockages do not occur
- Perform and assist with the Fire Protection Preventive Maintenance Program, ensuring that all items are inspected as per weekly schedule
- Ensure proper measures are taken to protect the environment and the Hotel’s adherence to it
- Participates as a pro-active team member in the Hotel’s Energy conservation program by making appropriate recommendations to Engineering managers on energy conservation improvements
- Ensure Fire and Engineering safety features and be thoroughly familiar with the Hotel’s emergency procedures and perform assigned duties as per the Hotel’s Emergency Response Plan
- Be familiar and operate the Hotel’s Building Automation system
- Perform any other related tasks and duties as assigned by General Manager from time to time
SKILLS & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma in Engineering or related field
- Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in the Hospitality sector, with at least 1 year in Supervisory role
- Strong communication skills (written and spoken)
