Assistant Data Engineering Lead

We are now looking for a talented Assistant Data Engineering Lead to be part of our team. The candidate will be supporting Data Engineering Lead to manage and enhance a data platform on cloud with a team of engineers, onshore and offshore. The incumbent will work closely with internal IT, data scientists, data analysts, business analysts, and vendors on planning, management, execution & delivery of data management and the enablement for various data products and services for Swire Properties. The incumbent will also work with internal stakeholders in ensuring the data is managed in accordance to Data protection policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage a team of internal and external data engineers in enhancing and maintaining existing ETL pipelines, storage and the Azure Data Platform, including but not limited to the following duties
- Manage internal stakeholders and external vendors to effectives deliver data engineering solutions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure robust data engineering works up to quality and support the production rollout of various data products
- Mobilize resources on implementation and maintenance works in an efficient manner
- Ensure the technical deliverables are concisely documented including but not limit to data dictionary, data flow, pipeline design, data mapping logic, and data asset inventories
- Review and sign off the technical deliverables including effort estimation, impact analysis, design doc, technical specifications as well as SIT, Deployment and System Operation deliverables, delivered by subordinates or external vendors
- Support the Data Engineering Lead and collaborate with other data function pillars, including but not limited to Data Science & Analytics, Data Application & Operations, etc., in managing and prioritizing tasks
- Collaborate with Digital & IT Team and external vendors to initiate required changes upon upstream application updates and downstream application needs
REQUIREMENTS
- University graduate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information System, Information Management or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ working experience in data infrastructure and architecture with demonstrated experience and capability in data warehousing, data modelling and design, data integration, data migration, ETL/ELT, BI and Big data solutions skill sets
- Experience in leading a small team of data engineers and vendor management
- Strong in SQL and PySpark/Python is a must
- Experience in data processing with small data & big data storage format like CSV, Parquet, Hive Metastore is a must
- Experience with implementing and maintaining cloud services such as Azure (Data Lake Storage Gen2, SQL DB, Data Factory, Databricks, DevOps) or related is highly desirable
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD practices, and semantic model implementation for BI visualisation tools is highly desirable.
- Experience in data platform security, ML/Agentic AI, and data quality frameworks preferred.
- Familiarity with Databricks UC migration, BI, data lineage, and data catalog tools is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum and project management tools (e.g., Jira) is a plus.
- Strong communication, presentation, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in spoken and written English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
