Position Summary
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of deli operations, ensuring high-quality food production, exceptional customer service, and adherence to company standards. This role assists in driving sales, managing team performance, controlling costs, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient department.
Key Responsibilities Operational Execution- Assist in managing daily deli operations including food preparation, merchandising, and inventory control
- Ensure all products meet quality, freshness, and presentation standards
- Maintain proper rotation, dating, and storage of all deli products
- Support ordering, receiving, and inventory processes to minimize shrink and out-of-stocks
- Ensure department cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and sanitation standards are met
- Provide outstanding customer service and ensure a welcoming environment
- Handle special orders, catering requests, and customer inquiries
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Promote deli offerings and drive sales through suggestive selling
- Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and developing deli associates
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture
- Ensure compliance with attendance and labor productivity standards
- Support achievement of department sales, margin, and labor goals
- Execute merchandising plans, displays, and promotions
- Monitor waste and implement cost-control measures
- Identify opportunities to grow sales and improve efficiency
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
- Maintain proper temperature logs and food handling procedures
- Enforce company policies, safety standards, and regulatory compliance
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous deli, food service, or grocery experience preferred
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting of up to 40 lbs; occasional heavier lifting with assistance
- Work in hot and cold environments (kitchens, coolers, and freezers)
