Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Rock Chalk Park will support the Director of Rock Chalk Park. The Assistant Director of Rock Chalk Park will be the primary contact for Events related to Tennis, Golf, and Soccer. Primary person of contact for facilities related to the Jayhawk Club (Golf) and Jayhawk Tennis Center. And, this position will be the secondary person of contact and responsible for assisting the Director - Rock Chalk Park for facilities pertaining to Rock Chalk Park, including facility projects and upkeep. Secondary person of contact and responsible for assisting the Director Facilities & Events for events at Rock Chalk Park; Outdoor Track & Field, Softball, and University or outside events.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Direct and oversee the day-to-day facility operations and maintenance operations for the Jayhawk Club and Jayhawk Tennis Center. Assist the Director of Rock Chalk Park in overseeing the day-to-day facility operations and maintenance operations for soccer, softball, and track and field;
  2. Assist the Director of Rock Chalk Park in the supervision of the Maintenance and Custodial Staff at RCP;

  1. Assist in directing external contractors and 3rd party vendors that perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing, preventative maintenance, and landscape services to Rock Chalk Park, Jayhawk Tennis Center, and KU Golf Facility;

  1. Lead event management for Tennis and Golf; will assist event management for Softball, Outdoor Track & Field, and outside events, including but not limited to: KISHSAA Softball, other University and/or outside groups uses, etc.;

  1. Assist in the management of all Rock Chalk Park and the Jayhawk Club access control (Max Cloud Pro), security systems;

  1. Assist building/grounds staff with maintenance when needed, including but not limited to preparation of softball/soccer field, removal of softball tarp, soccer field growth tarps, snow/ice removal, and drying of tennis courts;

  1. Assist with coordination and oversee preparation of facilities for special events hosted in Kansas Athletics facilities, including but not limited to KAI-sponsored events, recruiting dinners, etc.;

  1. Assist with facility maintenance walk-throughs and scheduling needed repairs for primary facilities of the Jayhawk Club, Jayhawk Tennis Center, and Rock Chalk Park;

  1. Responsible for all facility pre-event checklists and event planning, setup, and teardown for respective: lights, scoreboards, sound, tents, tables, chairs, portables, etc.;

  1. Perform in-game responsibilities, including crowd control, troubleshooting, assisting with maintaining a safe environment for players and spectators, escorting and protecting visiting teams, officials, and home teams;

  1. Create, laminate, and install signage related to events;

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director - Rock Chalk Park and Director – Facilities & Events.

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at Kansas Athletics related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Occasional local/regional travel is expected for this position for continued education, training and professional growth.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
