A little more about your role…

  • Assist in delivering pavement projects, including investigation reports, design, and site supervision.
  • Carry out road inspections and prepare treatment recommendations.
  • Demonstrate good technical knowledge of pavement design, maintenance, and construction projects.
  • Provide support to senior engineers within the design team, including planning, programming, and cost estimation.
  • Develop pavement designs and prepare contract documentation in accordance with the DMRB and MCHW standards.
  • Support the development of Graduate Engineers and Apprentices.
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Liaise confidently with clients to support project delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and design calculations.
  • Support the preparation of fee estimates and scope documents.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of civil engineering principles.
  • Ensure delivery is achieved in accordance with the company’s management systems, including health and safety, project management, and risk management.

Your team…

The WSP Pavement Engineering team is seeking an Engineer/Assistant Engineer to join this established and experienced team, working on exciting large-scale projects. Due to recent successes, the team is growing and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate seeking new and exciting challenges. You will form part of an existing team delivering pavement design and maintenance projects for a range of clients in the UK and overseas.

You will assist the engineering team in developing and delivering projects through various stages of design, from feasibility to detailed design and construction. You will work with a group of engineers to help deliver pavement design and maintenance schemes throughout the entire project lifecycle, with the support of the Discipline Lead. The current team is diverse and well respected across the industry; therefore, the candidate is required to have suitable technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team.

Our ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in the field of pavement engineering and ideally be working towards membership of an appropriate professional engineering institution.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Knowledge of pavement engineering demonstrated through design and investigation experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of road and airfield pavement engineering projects.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of UK pavement design methodologies and contract documentation, including MCHW/DMRB.
  • Knowledge of material behaviour and failure mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of asset management principles and the ability to understand and improve them.
  • Knowledge of road operation, maintenance, and renewal practices.
  • Experience working within a pavement engineering discipline or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Working towards either Incorporated or Chartered status with a relevant professional engineering institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT, or similar).
  • National Highways Accredited Pavement Engineer (desirable).
  • Experience of non-DMRB pavement design (advantageous).
