What is the Opportunity?
This is a great opportunity for a versatile, capable person of many skills who takes pride in keeping a facility running well. Reporting to the JPCC Facility Operations Manager, the Assistant Facility Engineer supports the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the Jewett Park Community Center through maintenance and custodial work, and, with support from the Parks Department, serves as building supervisor after normal business hours. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial and housekeeping work throughout the facility, including restroom cleaning, sanitation, and restocking of restroom supplies, and respond to spills, leaks, and emergencies.
  • With assistance from the Parks Department, monitor and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, and operate related system hardware and controls.
  • Perform general carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs within the scope of the position and applicable safety requirements.
  • Set up rooms and building spaces per the daily facility calendar for a variety of programs and events.
  • Serve as building supervisor after normal business hours, responding to facility issues and securing and locking the JPCC each evening.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal as needed and adjust work schedules to meet facility needs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) with 3+ years of experience in the mechanical and maintenance trades; training, certification, or licensing in a skilled trade (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry) preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills and willingness to learn new systems; able to prioritize, multitask, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, representing the Park District professionally with people of all ages.
  • Physically able to regularly lift 20 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs., and to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch; fluent in English; must be at least 18 years of age.
Scheduling, pay and benefits
  • Full Time, Nonexempt Position. Pay Range: $24 to $26 per hour, depending on qualifications (DOQ).
  • Hours: 1:00pm-9:30pm, will vary based on facility schedule including securing and locking the facility each evening; some weekend hours may be required.
