Assistant Forest Engineer

Summary

Assists a Forest Engineer in planning and executing forest engineering programs, ensuring compliance with policies and resource management objectives.

Participates with the Forest Engineer/Staff Officer in the formulation of policies, objectives, work programs, and plans by providing authoritative input on Engineering activities of the National Forest.

Implements and executes project plans for the engineering program area(s) assigned. Responsible for the quality, quantity, and coordination of all work performed in the assigned program area(s).

Provides recommendations on development and execution of Forest engineering programs to ensure their accomplishment within applicable guidelines and available manpower and funds.

Is responsible for final evaluation reporting and recommendations on all administrative aspects of the assigned program of work.

Participates in the development of strategic plans involving program, project, budget and organizational elements in a multi-year context to achieve resource management objectives as established in the Forest Land Management plan.

May serve as a liaison between the Forest and Regional Office Directors on matters involving the scope of the program.

Supervision 25% or more of the time - Plans and directs the overall work of the unit performed through subordinate supervisors, team leaders, or comparable personnel.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
