Assistant General Manager | Surprise, AZ
Description
Assistant General Manager | Surprise, AZ
NOTE: Applicants must live in the Surprise, AZ / West Valley area or within commuting distance. We do not offer relocation assistance for this role.
We’re looking for an Assistant General Manager who lives for great guest experiences and great teams to lead the front of house at our Surprise restaurant.
You’re the person guests remember. You’re on the floor during the rush, greeting regulars, checking tables, fixing problems before they grow, and making sure every guest leaves wanting to come back. Just as importantly, you know that great hospitality starts with a team that feels supported, trained, and appreciated. You coach in the moment, recognize good work out loud, and hold people accountable with respect.
You’ll partner closely with the restaurant’s leadership team and Kitchen Manager to run a smooth, well-staffed operation, step in to lead the restaurant when leadership is off-site, and work with Human Resources to build a team people want to be part of.
If you’re ready to own the guest experience, grow a front-of-house team, and build toward a General Manager role, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
Guest Experience
- Own the front-of-house guest experience from greeting to farewell, keeping service warm, attentive, and consistent with Trapper’s standards.
- Maintain a visible floor presence during peak periods: touching tables, supporting servers and bartenders, and keeping the pace of service on track.
- Handle guest concerns promptly and professionally, follow up on recurring issues, and turn unhappy guests into returning ones.
- Partner with the kitchen to keep ticket times, food presentation, and order accuracy where they need to be.
- Monitor guest feedback and online reviews and act on what guests are telling us.
- Keep the dining room, bar, host stand, and restrooms clean, organized, and guest-ready at all times.
Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and develop hosts, servers, bartenders, and front-of-house leads in partnership with Human Resources.
- Lead pre-shift meetings that set expectations, share goals, and recognize great work.
- Coach team members in real time and give timely, specific feedback, both positive and corrective.
- Build a respectful, inclusive team culture where people feel heard and want to stay.
- Support Employee of the Month and other recognition programs, and celebrate team wins.
- Address performance or conduct concerns in partnership with the restaurant’s leadership and Human Resources.
- Promptly route employee complaints, accommodation requests, and other sensitive concerns to Human Resources.
- Ensure team members complete required training and keep certifications and permits current.
Operations
- Open and close the restaurant and serve as manager on duty, including leading the full restaurant when senior leadership is off-site.
- Build and manage front-of-house schedules that match sales volume while controlling labor and overtime.
- Oversee cash handling, drawer counts, deposits, and authorized discounts, comps, and voids.
- Ensure responsible alcohol service and compliance with Arizona liquor laws.
- Ensure accurate timekeeping, proper recording of all hours worked, and adherence to company meal and rest break procedures.
- Report workplace injuries and safety incidents immediately and complete required documentation.
- Execute company promotions, menu changes, and operational initiatives.
- Protect confidential employee, payroll, and financial information.
- Complete reports, checklists, and administrative responsibilities accurately and on time.
- Uphold Trapper’s Sushi’s TRAPCHK core values: Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Passion, Communication, Honesty, and Kindness.
- Perform other related duties and support business needs as assigned.
