Position Summary
The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring shelves are stocked, merchandised, and customer-ready at all times. This role helps drive sales, control shrink, and lead the team while maintaining high standards for service, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Assist in managing all Grocery Department functions including stocking, ordering, and inventory control
- Ensure shelves are faced, filled, and organized to maximize sales and presentation
- Support proper product rotation, code dating, and shrink reduction practices
- Execute ad changes, promotional displays, and seasonal merchandising plans
Customer Experience
- Provide excellent customer service and support team members in delivering a positive shopping experience
- Address customer questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department
Team Leadership & Development
- Support hiring, training, and onboarding of grocery associates
- Provide direction, coaching, and daily task delegation to team members
- Assist in creating schedules that align with department needs
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and engagement
Financial Performance
- Support the Grocery Manager in achieving sales, labor, and shrink goals
- Monitor department conditions and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
- Assist with inventory counts and expense control initiatives
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company policies
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment for associates and customers
- Follow all regulatory and operational standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous grocery or retail experience preferred; leadership experience a plus
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in various store conditions including stockrooms and sales floor
