The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists in driving sales, maintaining merchandising standards, managing inventory, controlling expenses, and delivering exceptional customer service. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps lead and develop department associates while ensuring a safe, clean, organized, and customer-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in the daily operation and execution of all Grocery Department activities.
- Support department goals related to sales, service, profitability, and productivity.
- Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are fully stocked, attractive, and properly signed.
- Monitor department conditions and maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards.
- Execute company merchandising programs and seasonal promotional displays.
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty when assigned.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory control processes.
- Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to improve in-stock conditions.
- Ensure proper rotation of products following First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.
- Review department out-of-stock reports and implement corrective action plans.
- Verify pricing accuracy and promotional compliance throughout the department.
- Assist with inventory counts and shrink reduction initiatives.
- Support efforts to achieve department sales, gross margin, and profit goals.
- Monitor labor utilization and productivity standards.
- Assist in controlling expenses, reducing shrink, and maximizing department profitability.
- Analyze sales trends and operational reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support execution of action plans developed to improve department performance.
- Promote and model outstanding customer service standards.
- Address customer questions, concerns, and product inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Ensure associates actively engage customers and create a positive shopping experience.
- Resolve customer issues effectively while maintaining company service standards.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training department associates.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
- Assist in developing future leaders through training and cross-functional learning opportunities.
- Support scheduling and labor planning to meet business needs.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers.
- Monitor proper equipment usage and safe work practices.
- Conduct routine department inspections and address safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain compliance with all sanitation and workplace safety standards.
