RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the day-to-day management and operation of the Nutrition Services Department.
  • Lead, coach, and support kitchen staff while fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Collaborate with dietitians to develop nutritious menus and prepare meals that meet resident and patient dietary needs.
  • Manage inventory, purchasing activities, product guides, and kitchen cleanliness to ensure efficient operations.
  • Serve as Director on Duty when needed and support department reporting, inventory counts, and equipment maintenance coordination.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in quantity food production, including menu planning with nutritional considerations.
  • Previous food service experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and managing teams effectively.
  • Experience with purchasing, budgeting, inventory management, and related financial responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and healthcare food service regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Epic software preferred.
  • Certified SERV Safe Manager certification required or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds while performing kitchen duties.


ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. This position works primarily in a busy healthcare kitchen environment and requires regular interaction with patients, residents, visitors, medical staff, vendors, and other employees. Team members must be flexible and available to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and early or late hours as operational needs require. The role involves frequent movement throughout the kitchen and the operation of commercial food service equipment.

Job Hazard: Employees are routinely exposed to heat, cold temperatures, steam, grease, water, cleaning chemicals, and kitchen noise, with potential risks including cuts, burns, slips, falls, and strains associated with lifting and repetitive movement.
