Role Summary

The Assistant Manager – Battery & HV Safety will oversee thermal runaway mitigation, high-voltage clearances, electromagnetic/electrical hazards, and safety compliance across all battery assembly, R&D labs, flight test beds, and hardware integration environments. This role ensures operational and functional safety across high-voltage energy storage systems, aircraft power distribution, and sensitive electronic units.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Mandatory Qualifications: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Energy, or Safety Engineering.
  • Mandatory Experience: Hands-on experience in high-voltage battery safety, laboratory testing, and electrical equipment safety within the EV, eVTOL, or aerospace sectors.
  • Preferred Experience: Direct experience with NFPA 855 (Energy Storage Systems), UN 38.3, ARP4761 / DO-254 / DO-160 (Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment), ISO 26262, or aerospace-grade lithium-ion cell testing.
  • Primary Skills: Lithium-ion thermal runaway prevention, High-Voltage (HV) isolation & Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Electrical/electronics hazard assessment, airborne electrical power distribution safety, Avionic test rig safety protocol design, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) / arc-flash risk mitigation.
  • Secondary Skills: EHS Incident/Accident investigation, Root cause analysis (RCA), emergency response planning for airborne chemical/electrical fires, vendor audit for specialized PPE, and grounding/bonding safety clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • System & Facility Safety: Establish and enforce strict safety standards across high-voltage testing environments, battery assembly areas, and charging infrastructure.
  • Thermal & Fire Containment: Design and execute thermal runaway containment procedures, fire suppression protocols, and specialized emergency response plans for battery and electronics R&D labs.
  • Equipment & PPE Management: Manage the selection, procurement, and maintenance of high-voltage PPE, insulated tools, ESD protective equipment, and arc-flash protection gear.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead incident investigations involving battery thermal events, electrical anomalies, or avionics hardware shorts, developing robust root cause analyses (RCA) and preventative actions.
