Assistant Manager - Underwriting (General Insurance)

We are hiring for our client, a leading insurance organization, seeking an experienced Assistant Manager - Underwriting (General Insurance) to join their growing team. The successful candidate will lead the Non-Motor underwriting function, ensuring disciplined risk assessment, sound governance, and effective collaboration across business functions while supporting the organization's long-term underwriting objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the end-to-end underwriting process for Non-Motor insurance products.
- Review and approve complex or high-value underwriting cases, ensuring sound risk selection and pricing.
- Develop, implement, and maintain underwriting guidelines, policies, and risk assessment frameworks.
- Monitor portfolio performance, underwriting KPIs, and emerging risks, recommending strategies to optimize profitability.
- Ensure timely issuance of policies, renewals, and endorsements while maintaining service excellence.
- Collaborate with Claims, Sales, Operations, Actuarial, and other stakeholders to support portfolio growth and risk management.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal governance standards, and underwriting best practices.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the underwriting team to enhance technical capability and overall performance.
- Prepare management reports and provide insights on portfolio performance, risk exposure, and business opportunities.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 10-12 years of underwriting experience within General Insurance, with strong exposure to Non-Motor lines.
- Proven experience managing underwriting operations and leading high-performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, portfolio management, pricing strategies, and risk assessment.
- Solid understanding of insurance regulations, governance frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment while maintaining underwriting discipline and operational excellence.
