Position Summary

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Produce Department. This position helps ensure exceptional freshness, quality, presentation, inventory control, food safety compliance, and customer service while assisting with leadership of department associates. The Assistant Produce Manager plays a key role in driving sales, maintaining department standards, and creating an outstanding shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily Produce Department operations.
  • Ensure proper stocking, rotation, culling, and merchandising of all produce items.
  • Maintain attractive, fully stocked sales displays that meet company standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to support sales and minimize shrink.
  • Support implementation of promotional programs and seasonal displays.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
  • Assist customers with product selection, preparation suggestions, and special requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Promote department sales through product knowledge and engagement.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing department associates.
  • Support scheduling and daily work assignments.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Help enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the Produce Manager's absence.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and proper storage conditions.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Follow and enforce all company and regulatory guidelines.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving sales, gross margin, shrink, and labor goals.
  • Monitor department performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Help control expenses through effective inventory management and operational efficiency.
  • Support execution of company initiatives designed to improve profitability.
Qualifications
  • Previous produce, grocery, or retail leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of produce handling, merchandising, and quality standards.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop associates in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic math, inventory, and computer skills.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull products in accordance with job requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move products consistent with department needs.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments and varying store conditions.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
