Job Summary

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Produce Department. This role assists with driving sales, maintaining product quality and freshness, delivering exceptional customer service, and leading department associates. The Assistant Produce Manager assumes department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Produce Manager.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in supervising daily Produce Department operations to ensure merchandising, stocking, and service standards are consistently met.
  • Maintain attractive, abundant, and well-organized produce displays that support sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and product replenishment activities.
  • Ensure all produce products are properly rotated and maintained according to freshness standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify opportunities to reduce shrink and waste.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in accordance with company standards.
Customer Service
  • Provide exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection, preparation suggestions, and product inquiries.
  • Resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support sales growth through product knowledge and suggestive selling techniques.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with recruiting, training, coaching, and developing Produce associates.
  • Help coordinate work assignments and ensure adequate department coverage.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer focus.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to improve performance and service standards.
  • Assist the Produce Manager with departmental communication and execution of company initiatives.
Product Quality & Food Safety
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance standards.
  • Monitor product quality throughout the day and promptly remove unsellable merchandise.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, rotation, and temperature control procedures are followed.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving department sales, labor, shrink, and profitability goals.
  • Support promotional and seasonal merchandising programs.
  • Monitor department performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Help control expenses through effective inventory management and labor utilization.
