Tenure track (TT) responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester, excluding summers, unless otherwise indicated; engaging in ongoing scholarship/research and service to the department, college, university, and/or community; and participating in the Sociology area leadership and departmental duties and responsibilities. The person filling this position will serve as the only full-time Sociologist at UCCC and therefore must demonstrate an ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate Sociology courses.

Essential Functions

The new full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology will be expected to engage in the following activities, as assigned:

  • To teach undergraduate-level Sociology courses, assessing student work, and mentoring students in undergraduate research.
  • To teach courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online formats.
  • To take the lead on administrative work related to the Sociology area, such as in scheduling and staffing courses, ordering textbooks, working with adjuncts and others, and sometimes acting as a liaison to other UC campuses to develop, coordinate, and/or assess curricula and courses.
  • To engage in scholarly research and professional development as well as service to the department, college, university, and/or community.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree (PhD) in Sociology. ABD candidates will be considered; however, they must have their PhD in hand by the start date of the job (August 15, 2027). In addition, candidates must possess college teaching experience and demonstrate effectiveness in teaching Introduction to Sociology as well as other undergraduate courses. Moreover, candidates must demonstrate the capacity to teach in a culturally diverse, student-centered, open-access environment.

Additional Qualifications Considered

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who have evidence of excellent college-level teaching for two (2) or more years (full time) to different levels of undergraduate students. Ideal candidates are comfortable teaching undergraduate courses in social inequality, deviance, and intercultural interaction. Interest areas related to health/medicine, inequality, or deviance are ideal. Also, ideal candidates will demonstrate, or show strong potential for, substantial scholarship and professional development as well as satisfactory service, excellent oral, written, and interaction skills, evidence of a strong ability to work as a team player, proof of engagement with current trends and technologies in teaching and learning, and experiences in developing, coordinating, and assessing curricula and instruction.

Application Information

UC currently declines to sponsor foreign international candidates. All others, please apply at www.jobsatuc.edu by submitting the following materials:
