About the role

The Assistant Program Coordinator (APC) will provide daily support for household operations and case management.


What you'll do

Assistant Program Coordinator duties include the following:

  • Connect youth with Indigenous cultural activities, traditions, and holistic practices.
  • Foster healthy relationship-building by engaging youth in positive, pro-social activities.
  • Lead Indigenous engagement initiatives and participate in networking opportunities and community events.
  • Support youth in developing leadership, life, and interpersonal skills.
  • Coordinate and lead case planning and case management activities for program participants.
  • Complete required reports, documentation, and administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Recruit and engage youth within the local service area.
  • Model, encourage, and promote independent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Collaborate with other non-profit organizations across the province that deliver similar services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Travel as required to support program delivery, community engagement, and organizational initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Assets:

  • Working knowledge of the Mission, Vision and Values of the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Working knowledge of the characteristics of disadvantaged persons.
  • Working knowledge of Restorative Justice and Harm Reduction practices.
  • Understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional writing and case management skills.
  • Strong verbal skills and the ability to communicate professionally.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience:

  • Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
  • Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other:

  • First Aid & CPR, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
  • Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
  • Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability:

  • Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
