For more than a decade, Island Exterior Fabricators (IEF) has operated as a privately owned practice specializing in the delivery of bespoke, high-performing prefabricated facade systems. Our 50-acre manufacturing campus is headquartered in Calverton, New York, and supported by design and engineering offices in Manhattan, Boston, and Hartford.

Job Summary: As an Assistant Project Design Manager at IEF, you will be accountable for supporting the execution of project design deliverables across all phases of design development, coordination, and production. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, they ensure that design documentation is organized, aligned with project requirements, and released in a timely and coordinated manner.
Accountabilities:
- Maintain structured, organized project folders using server or cloud-based systems to ensure accessible and current design documentation.
- Develop and manage the submittal schedule in alignment with production, installation, and material lead times. Coordinate with the Project Manager, Materials Manager, System Design Lead, and Fabrication Lead.
- Collaborate with internal and external design resources to meet project deadlines.
- Review shop drawings, thermal analyses, and structural calculations. Proactively identify design risks and collaborate with the Project Manager on mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and submit samples, specifications, LEED documentation, shop drawings, RFIs, and engineering submittals. Maintain accurate submission logs and ensure alignment with architectural and project requirements.
- Conduct final checks of fabrication models to confirm alignment with shop drawings, RFIs, and the design intent prior to release to production.
- Interpret architectural, structural, and specification documents. Submit and track RFIs and ensure all design packages adhere to project documentation and compliance requirements.
- Participate in Design Assist meetings. Partner with business development, project teams, and external collaborators to align design scope with project objectives and client expectations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field required
- 3–5 years of experience in architectural design, façade systems, or construction project coordination.
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams across design, fabrication, and installation phases.
- Prior involvement in Design Assist or design-build projects is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit; familiarity with Rhino, SolidWorks, or other 3D modeling platforms is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
Salary Range: $80,875 - $101,093

ADA Requirements: The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while using a computer, along with sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, mobile devices, and related IT equipment. The role may occasionally involve lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, crawling, or climbing—such as accessing under desks or server racks. Candidates must possess the ability to concentrate, troubleshoot, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills. The role also demands effective task prioritization, management of multiple simultaneous support requests, and a capacity to quickly learn and adapt to evolving technologies and tools.
