Assistant Recreation Manager

Position Overview

The Assistant Recreation Manager supports the daily operations of the Recreation Department at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, including complimentary guest activities, paid group experiences, adventure programming, and wellness offerings. This role requires a creative, flexible, and highly organized leader who can support year-round recreation operations while helping deliver seasonal programming and exceptional guest experiences.

Reporting directly to the Director of Spa & Wellness, the Assistant Recreation Manager partners closely with the Director to support day-to-day operations, team development, programming execution, inventory coordination, and departmental initiatives. Through direct mentorship and collaboration, this role provides leadership growth opportunities while building experience in recreation management, labor administration, and resort operations.

The Director of Spa & Wellness retains overall accountability for departmental strategy, staffing, performance management, financial performance, operational standards, and departmental success.

Prior Hyatt experience is strongly preferred.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Leadership & Team Development

· Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and operational direction to Recreation colleagues in delivering safe, engaging, and memorable guest experiences.

· Participate in interviewing and assist the Director of Spa & Wellness with onboarding, training, and development of seasonal and newly hired colleagues.

· Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture aligned with Hyatt values.

· Conduct daily line-ups and operational briefings and provide real-time coaching and feedback, escalating formal performance concerns to the Director of Spa & Wellness.

· Support employee engagement, recognition, and team development initiatives.

· Provide operational leadership support in the absence of the Director of Spa & Wellness.

Partnership & Administrative Support

· Partner closely with the Director of Spa & Wellness in support of departmental goals, initiatives, and operational priorities.

· Assist with preparing and coordinating activity and colleague schedules in partnership with the Director of Spa & Wellness, following established staffing guidelines, labor expectations, and scheduling procedures.

· Learn and support payroll processes, including timecard review, payroll preparation, labor tracking, and payroll accuracy verification as part of ongoing leadership development.

· Gain exposure to labor management practices and administrative functions to support leadership development.

· Maintain departmental records, operational calendars, activity schedules, and communication materials.

· Manage RealTime updates and departmental Canva content to ensure accurate guest-facing information.

· Assist with departmental reporting, participation tracking, and performance monitoring.

Inventory & Operational Excellence

· Coordinate recreation inventory, equipment maintenance tracking, and departmental record keeping.

· Conduct routine inventory counts and prepare recommendations for monthly purchasing needs.

· Ensure recreation equipment and activity areas remain organized, well-maintained, and guest-ready.

· Support operational readiness of recreation facilities, beach amenities, and seasonal activity areas.

· Coordinate maintenance requests and follow-up as needed.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

· Support compliance with Hyatt safety standards and applicable regulations through routine inspections, training, documentation, and escalation of identified concerns.

· Conduct regular equipment and facility inspections.

· Promote safe operating practices and support departmental training initiatives.

· Maintain accurate safety logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation.

· Participate in emergency response procedures and safety training requirements.

Operations & Guest Experience

· Serve as a Recreation liaison for group programming, partnering with Events and resort departments to coordinate activities, facilitate experiences, and support exceptional guest execution.

· Support the planning, coordination, and execution of complimentary daily activities, paid group programming, and wellness offerings.

· Ensure safe and efficient operation of recreation and beach equipment throughout the year.

· Partner with the Director of Spa & Wellness to enhance existing programs and develop new guest experiences.

· Collaborate with Spa, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Engineering, and other resort departments to ensure seamless guest service.

· Monitor guest feedback and participation trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
