Job purpose

Carry out routine checks and minor maintenance/repair duties on engines and other mechanical equipment and tools on assigned location and assist in major repairs and overhauls. Assist in rig moves and monitor engines and machinery in the absence of mechanic.

Key accountabilities

Job specific accountabilities

Carry out routine checks of engines, pumps, steering gear and other machinery fitted on onshore/offshore rigs and oil field services. Includes checking oil levels, monitoring temperatures, and general greasing.
Ensure that compressed air bottles are fully charged and batteries topped up and clean so that engines are ready and in prime condition at all times.
Start and stop engines, pumps and other machinery as and when required.
Maintain adequate supplies of fuel, lubricating oils, fresh water and other consumables.
Undertake routine maintenance and servicing of engines and ancillary equipment according to schedules, check-lists and specific requirements. Duties include changing oils, cleaning strainers and filters, greasing and topping up hydraulic oils as required.
Keep engine rooms, engines, pumps and tools clean and tidy.
Undertake non-routine minor repairs to engines and ancillary equipment and report to mechanic faults that are beyond capabilities or require use of shore/workshop facilities.
Assist in routine and non-routine major repairs and overhauls of engines, pumps, steering gears, generators, hydraulic machinery and other mechanical equipment.
Observe rig safety rules and procedures and watch for unsafe practices, oil spillage, and leaking pipes. Includes ensuring that appropriate work permits are issued for all maintenance and repair work, covering oil spills with absorbent materials and working in dangerous areas as necessary.
Carry out other similar or related duties such as operating all life-saving and fire-fighting equipment on assigned rig as necessary, maintaining engine daily log book, advising mechanic of daily consumption of water and diesel, and practicing good housekeeping in engine room area and workshop.
Comply with all UAE, ADNOC, ADNOC Drilling and client Asset Integrity Management codes of practice.

Training: Provide on-the-job training to meet competency based training programs for UAE nationalization.
Innovation and continuous improvement: Contribute to the identification of areas and opportunities for continuous improvement in operating procedures and functional processes.
Health, safety, environment (HSE) and sustainability: Support the institution of an HSE culture and ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures and controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines across the division in line with international standards, best practices and corporate code of practices to ensure integrity and safety of assets.
Housekeeping: Maintain the work environment clean and tidy before and during operations, in line with established standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
Reports: Provide inputs to prepare section progress reports for company management. Prepare various key performance indicator (KPI) checklists for management.

Communications & working relationships

Internal: Regular contacts with personnel at own or next higher level to exchange and/or receive information regarding the running of engines and ancillary equipment.

External: None.

Qualifications, experience, knowledge & skills

Minimum qualification

Completion of secondary (12 years) education followed by 2 years full-time training in a mechanical trade preferably diesel engines.

Minimum experience & knowledge & skills

4 years experience in operating and repairing diesel engines.
Fair knowledge of English.
