Assistant Security Manager

Summary

Oversee physical security operations for a Smithsonian museum, including equipment oversight, emergency planning, and security program management under the Security Manager.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located within the Office of Protective Services (OPS), Undersecretary of Administration, Smithsonian Institution (SI). OPS is responsible for overseeing, a large museum/complex security program, and leading and providing protection throughout SI.

The Assistant Security Manager personally and through subordinate administrative staff and subordinate security supervisors assists in managing the physical security program for an assigned museum security unit within the Office of Protection Services. In this position, you will: Provide assistance with the acquisition, installation, inspection, and repair of new or existing security equipment and/or devices. Assist the Security Manager in directing activities concerned with security and emergency planning programs at assigned SI buildings. Develop and assess materials that will be used for preparing briefings and point papers for the Security Manager. Gather data for the planning and programming for long and short-range security programs and projects.
