Description

[What the role is]

Sustainability is integral to Singapore’s long-term growth strategy and economic resilience. At the same time, the global environment for climate action is becoming more complex. Governments, businesses and financial institutions will need to remain nimble, responding to evolving climate-related risks while capturing new economic and investment opportunities.

Against this backdrop, the MAS Sustainability Group plays an important role to support FIs in enabling the regional low carbon transition needs:

i) Energy Transition – supporting financing solutions that enable Asia’s shift towards lower-carbon energy systems, while taking into account energy security, access and affordability;
ii) Adaptation and Resilience – developing and scaling financing solutions to mobilise capital for the region’s climate- and nature-related resilience needs; and
iii) Carbon markets – supporting financial institutions in building capabilities and participating across the carbon market value chain, from project financing and risk mitigation to carbon credit trading.

You will be part of a central team responsible for developing and implementing strategies and initiatives across these areas. Working closely with relevant departments across MAS as well as government and industry partners, you will contribute to efforts to strengthen Singapore’s position as a leading climate and resilience financing centre.

[What you will be working on]

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Sustainability Group (SG) in key projects aimed at catalysing financing for Asia’s low-carbon transition. The precise portfolio will be determined based on team priorities and the successful candidate’s experience. Areas of work could include:
    • Carbon Markets: working with other government agencies and industry partners on whole-of-economy strategies to grow Singapore as a carbon services and trading hub, as well as initiatives to enable the financial sector to capture opportunities arising from Singapore and regional carbon markets.
    • Adaption and resilience Financing. working with industry and other government agencies to develop and scale financing approaches for regional adaptation and resilience needs.
  • Support account management on entities that MAS has key relationships with. This includes support on brief inputs for strategic meetings, assessments of KPIs and administrative processing of grants during annual reviews.
  • Contribute to cross-MAS sustainability initiatives. This could include assessing developments in Singapore’s sustainable finance ecosystem and markets, contributing to MAS sustainability-related publications, and supporting engagements with international experts and advisory panels.

[What we are looking for]

  • Relevant work experience in the financial sector is preferred.
  • Knowledge of carbon markets, and adaptation and resilience is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and synthesise messages
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to positively influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills and able to lead organization-wide projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • A good team player who is proactive and motivated

You will be working in a fast-paced environment that would require the ability to manage multiple priorities and needs of stakeholders, as well as the agility to respond to changes and developments. As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment. This is a 1-year contract.

All applicants will be notified on whether they are shortlisted or not within 4 weeks of the closing date of this job posting.
