Associate Director - Technical Data Product Owner

We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Data Product Owner to lead the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of the LillyDirect Pharmacy Covered Entity Data Hub. This role serves as the bridge between business collaborators, data engineering teams, enterprise technology organizations, external data partners, and compliance functions to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant delivery of pharmacy and healthcare data assets.

The ideal candidate combines strong product ownership capabilities with technical expertise in data platforms, HIPAA-regulated environments, Agile delivery practices, and cross-functional stakeholder management. This individual will handle defining and prioritizing the product roadmap, leading delivery execution, and driving business value through data products that support analytics, reporting, operational processes, and patient-centric initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Own and lead the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the LillyDirect Pharmacy Covered Entity Data Hub.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate business goals into actionable product capabilities and technical requirements.

  • Define quarterly and annual roadmaps aligned with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and enterprise data strategy.

  • Prioritize initiatives, features, and technical debt using a value-driven approach.

Agile Product Ownership

  • Maintain and prioritize the product backlog within Jira.

  • Create and refine epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

  • Lead backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and release planning activities.

  • Ensure product delivery aligns with business requirements, quality standards, and timelines.

  • Run challenging priorities across multiple collaborator groups.

Data Engineering & Technical Delivery Leadership

  • Work closely with Data Engineers, Solution Architects, Platform Engineers, and Enterprise Technology teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions.

  • Coordinate onboarding of new pharmacy, telehealth, dispensing, prescribing, and covered entity data sources.

  • Support the development of data ingestion, transformation, quality, and observability capabilities.

  • Facilitate technical design discussions and guide prioritization of engineering work.

  • Understand modern cloud-based data architectures and data integration patterns.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the main liaison between:

    • Business stakeholders

    • Data Engineering teams

    • Enterprise Data platforms

    • Legal, Privacy, and Security teams

    • Vendor and third-party data partners

    • Analytics and Reporting teams

  • Lead requirements gathering workshops and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Communicate roadmap progress, risks, dependencies, and delivery status to leadership teams.

Data Governance, Privacy & Compliance

  • Ensure all product capabilities align with HIPAA, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Compliance teams throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Support Data Transfer Agreements (DTAs), data-sharing reviews, and data governance processes.

  • Understand tokenized healthcare data, de-identification approaches, and secure data exchange practices.

  • Drive implementation of data quality, auditability, and governance controls.

Data Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Define and monitor key product success metrics.

  • Collaborate with teams to establish data quality standards and controls.

  • Drive issue prioritization and resolution for production data pipelines.

  • Support incident management and operational readiness activities.

  • Champion observability, monitoring, and reliability initiatives across the product ecosystem.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Analytics, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.

  • 5+ years of Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, Data Product Manager, or Business Systems Analyst experience.

  • 3+ years working with enterprise data platforms, data integration, analytics, or cloud-based data ecosystems.

  • Experience managing Agile software delivery teams using Jira and Scrum methodologies.

  • Experience defining product roadmaps and managing cross-functional delivery programs.

  • Experience working in regulated healthcare or pharmaceutical environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pharmacy, dispensing, prescribing, patient services, telehealth, or healthcare data products.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and healthcare data governance practices.

  • Solid grasp of data engineering concepts including:

    • ETL/ELT processes

    • Data pipelines

    • Data quality management

    • Data integration architectures

    • API and file-based integrations

  • Experience working with Databricks, AWS, Redshift, Snowflake, Azure Data Platform, or similar cloud technologies.

  • Superb communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.

  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability and healthcare data ecosystems.

  • Experience leading third-party data onboarding programs.

  • Understanding of tokenized data, master data, and patient identity resolution concepts.

  • Experience with enterprise data governance and data observability platforms.

  • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, Scrum Product Owner, or Agile certifications.

Location & Work Flexibility
This role is based at our Lilly Corporate Center in Indianapolis, IN. We offer a flexible hybrid work model, with three days onsite and two days working remotely each week, supporting both collaboration and work‑life balance.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$124,500 - $182,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
