Associate Packaging Designer, Amazon Robotics
In this role, you will work alongside senior designers, program managers, automation engineers, and material scientists to bring new packaging concepts from prototype through testing and into production. You will build foundational skills in structural packaging design, CAD modeling, material testing, and specification development while contributing directly to packaging programs that reach hundreds of millions of customers.
This is a hands-on, lab-and-desk role with exposure to fulfillment center operations, supplier engagement, and cross-functional collaboration. You will be supported by experienced designers and engineers who will help you grow your technical expertise and operational knowledge.
Key job responsibilities
• Create and iterate on packaging prototypes and structural designs using ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD tools
• Produce visual renderings and design documentation to communicate concepts to internal stakeholders
• Support the development and maintenance of packaging specifications for paper bags, mailers, boxes, and dunnage materials
• Execute packaging performance tests in the lab (drop testing, compression, material characterization) and document results
• Assist in preparing test reports and presentations summarizing design performance, material comparisons, and recommendations
• Participate in cross-functional meetings with automation, customer experience, supply chain, and sustainability teams
• Support supplier sample evaluation, material qualification, and production readiness activities
• Travel to fulfillment centers, labs, and supplier facilities to support testing, pilot launches, and design validation (~15–20%)
A day in the life
Global Packaging Design & Engineering sits within the Amazon Robotics’ organization to enable a systems approach. The team develops, deploys, and scales packaging solutions across the Automated Robotics Sortable (ARS) network — from Pick to SLAM. We work backwards from customer insights to deliver packaging that integrates seamlessly into brownfield and greenfield fulfillment center deployments with safety as a top priority. We are transitioning from single-use plastics to curbside recyclable paper-based materials and own the end-to-end packaging experience including design, specification, testing, supplier engagement, and network deployment.
About the team
The Packaging Design and Engineering team at Amazon is a global team comprised of Packaging Engineers, Designers, Project Managers and Specifications experts. We iterate to accelerate, test thoroughly and own the entire packaging product specification.
