Associate Professor Position in Cancer Epidemiology
Description
Job Overview
As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improve the health and clinical care of patients. The College of Medicine, Department of Environmental & Public Health Sciences (DEPHS) is seeking an outstanding cancer epidemiologist for a tenure track faculty position at the Associate level in the Division of Epidemiology.
DEPHS conducts nationally and internationally recognized research spanning epidemiology, toxicology, environmental and industrial hygiene, and public health. The Department includes approximately 25 full-time faculty and 130 graduate students across four divisions: Epidemiology, Toxicology, Environmental and Industrial Hygiene, and Public Health. DEPHS is home to a NIEHS-funded T32 training program in Molecular Epidemiology of Children’s Environmental Health, a NIOSH-funded T42 Education and Research Center, and a recently established P20 Center for Collaboration on Climate & Community for Health (C4H). Research funding comes from NIH, NIOSH, foundations, industry, and a variety of federal, state, and local agencies, supporting a research portfolio that is among the nation's leaders in environmental, occupational, and public health.
Faculty and trainees in DEPHS also benefit from close collaborations with two of the University of Cincinnati’s premier research enterprises. The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC), a partnership among the UC, UC Health, and Cincinnati Children's, serves as the region’s only academic cancer center and integrates basic, clinical, translational, and population sciences research to advance cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship. The UCCC provides extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, shared research resources, community-engaged research, and investigator training across the cancer continuum.
In addition, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST) provides a robust infrastructure to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into improvements in human health. Through its partnership between UC and Cincinnati Children's, the CCTST offers research support services, pilot funding opportunities, training and career development programs, community-engaged research resources, and expertise in clinical and translational science for investigators across the university.
The appointee will have the opportunity to become a member of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. Additional opportunities for collaboration are available through the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST), the Center for Collaboration on Climate & Community for Health (C4H), the CEPH-accredited MPH Program, and numerous university-wide research centers and institutes. Established strengths across the College of Medicine include cancer biology, genomics, molecular biology, toxicology, immunology, pathology, biostatistical collaboration, bioinformatics, health services research, and clinical and translational science. Local resources include the nationally recognized Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, UC Health, and an extensive regional healthcare network serving populations throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. These resources and partnerships, together with extensive research core facilities, clinical research infrastructure, and access to large and varied patient populations, provide a highly collaborative environment and exceptional opportunities for innovative population-based clinical and translational cancer research.
