At Genesys, we help organizations create better customer experiences through AI-powered experience orchestration. Our platform connects people, systems, data and AI to help organizations deliver more personalized service, improve operational efficiency and build stronger customer relationships.

Help build, support and operate technology used by more than 8,000 organizations in over 100 countries – moving AI from possibility to production in real-world enterprise environments every day.

Associate Software Developer in Test

What this role is:

As an Associate Software Developer in Test, you’ll join a collaborative engineering team where you’ll build your technical and quality engineering skills while contributing to real products and customer experiences. You’ll work alongside experienced developers and quality engineers to design, develop, test, and improve software while learning the practices and technologies used to build reliable, scalable, and high-quality solutions.

This role is designed for an early-career software developer in test who has built a strong technical foundation through a four-year degree program and hands-on experience such as internships, co-ops, academic projects, or other software development and testing experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain automated tests and supporting software with guidance and support from experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to the quality of production applications, services, tools, and platforms as part of an Agile engineering team.
  • Learn and apply software engineering and quality engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, version control, CI/CD, and secure development practices.
  • Develop and execute automated and manual tests across appropriate layers, including UI, API, integration, and service-level testing.
  • Participate in technical discussions, design conversations, sprint planning, test planning, and team retrospectives.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot software and test failures, using logs, test results, and other diagnostic information to identify potential causes.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and reliable test code while continuing to strengthen your understanding of software design and testing principles.
  • Partner with developers, product managers, quality engineers, and other cross-functional partners to understand requirements, identify risks, and help deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Incorporate feedback from code reviews, mentoring, and team discussions into your work and development.
  • Build an understanding of the team’s systems, architecture, customers, business domain, and quality strategy over time.
  • Take increasing ownership of automated tests, test infrastructure, features, and quality-related technical work as your skills and familiarity with the product grow.
  • Stay curious about new technologies, testing approaches, development practices, and opportunities to improve software quality and engineering efficiency.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, completed or expected to be completed prior to starting the role.
  • Hands-on software development or testing experience gained through an internship, co-op, academic project, research experience, or similar practical setting.
  • Experience programming in at least one modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#, C++, Go, or a similar language.
  • A foundational understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented or functional programming concepts, and software development principles.
  • An understanding of software testing fundamentals, including test design, test cases, defect identification, and validation of expected behavior.
  • Familiarity with source control tools such as Git and exposure to collaborative software development workflows.
  • Some experience writing, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting code.
  • An interest in learning how production software is designed, tested, deployed, monitored, and maintained.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from others.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

It Would Be Helpful If You Have:

  • Exposure to automated testing tools or frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, JUnit, TestNG, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with cloud technologies or platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Exposure to APIs, microservices, distributed systems, databases, or web application development.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and tools used to test or validate API behavior.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containers, test infrastructure, or modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working with logs, monitoring tools, or other techniques for diagnosing software and test failures.
  • Experience working on a software engineering or quality engineering team during an internship or co-op.
  • Personal, academic, or open-source projects that demonstrate curiosity and an interest in software development, automation, and quality engineering.

What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you’ll grow from contributing to well-defined development and testing tasks with support to taking increasing ownership of automated testing, feature validation, and technical problem-solving. You’ll build deeper knowledge of our systems, strengthen both your software development and quality engineering skills, and contribute consistently to your team’s ability to deliver reliable, high-quality software.

You’ll demonstrate growing independence while knowing when to seek guidance, communicate technical issues clearly, and work collaboratively to build alignment around solutions. Over time, you’ll develop the technical foundation and product knowledge needed to take on broader and more complex quality engineering responsibilities.
